Description
LOVING PIADirected by Daniel Borgman. 2017. 99 minutes. Denmark. Danish with English subtitles.
In
rural Denmark, 60 year old Pia lives with her elderly mother. Pia, who has an
intellectual disability, believes it's high time she finds a boyfriend. Though
the script is fiction, Pia and her mother are real, acting as versions of
themselves. Borgman's poetic and genre-defying film contains remarkable
elegance beneath its simple exterior. Granular 16mm film captures sun-dappled
conversations at the kitchen table. Conversations about deep emotions, in the
simplest of terms.

WAJOODDirected by Vishal Srivastava. 2017. India. 13 minutes. Hindi with English subtitles.
A touching short film about a trans-woman in India finding self-worth in the face of social pressures and discrimination. Within India, trans-women still face significant discrimination, despite a long cultural history and recent legal protections as a third gender.
