Description
Vegetative infrastructure – think green roofs and green walls – offer enormous environmental and health benefits (e.g. urban heat-island mitigation, stormwater run-off mitigation, improved quality of air, improved psychological state). Although this infrastructure is becoming very popular in Toronto, many of us wouldn’t know because it’s largely hidden atop buildings or behind closed doors.
On this walk, we will discover some of our city’s most impressive vegetative roofs and walls. Walkers might discuss the importance of vegetative infrastructure, how to increase inhabitable space in a densifying city, the dividing line (or lack thereof) between nature and the city, urban heat island effect, or multi-sensory architecture.Vegetative infrastructure – think green roofs and green walls – offer enormous environmental and health benefits (e.g. urban heat-island mitigation, stormwater run-off mitigation, improved quality of air, improved psychological state).
