Letitia (Tish) James is the sixty-seventh attorney general of New York State, and the first woman of color to hold statewide office. Previously, as New York City’s public advocate, she was the first woman of color to hold citywide office in N.Y.C. Over the course of her distinguished career as a public servant, she has been a City Council member, the head of the Brooklyn regional office for the state attorney general, a lawyer for the State Legislature, and a public defender at the Legal Aid Society.
Andrew Marantz, a staff writer, has contributed to The New Yorker since 2011. He has written extensively for the magazine about politics, technology, the alt-right, and the press, as well as about comedy and pop culture. His first book, “Antisocial: Online Extremists, Techno-Utopians, and the Hijacking of the American Conversation,” was released in 2019, and was named a Times Book Review Editor’s Choice and a New York Times Notable Book of 2019.
