Jennis - Unique & Unforgettable
Henry's - next to Signal Brewing
79 River Rd, Corbyville, ON K0K 1V0, Canada
Our May concert features the modern and timeless music of Jennis along with a Home Town Artist opening set.
Jennis delivers more sound, variety and fun than one would think could fit into a single touring van. The duo brings together Guelph-based Dennis Gaumond’s decades of writing and performing, with Jen Gillmor, veteran of the Toronto indie scene. The friends’ blend of cello, dobro, didgeridoo, harmonica, flute, guitar, bass, jaw harp and wazinator – combined with catchy, quirky original songs – makes for a unique and unforgettable performance.
Jennis’s rootsy sound is at times bluesy, at times funky, jazzy or folky, with a hint of exotic ethnic influences. The material is mostly original, with some Jennisized versions of recognizable classics.
Their debut album, The Current, was released in June, 2014 and has charted at college radio stations across Canada. It was noticed by The Toronto Blues Society, who nominated them as finalists in their 2015 Talent Search Contest. One of the tunes has the dubious distinction of being voted ‘weird song of the month’ by a music blog in England.
Their follow-up album The Mirror, was released has just been released.
I’ve seen lots of bands over the past 40 years,
everyone from the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd to Merle, Haggard and
Lisa Minnelli — and I have to say that watching Jennis perform was truly
one of the best musical experiences I have ever had.
- Bruce Boucher, President, Kingston Blues Society
