Description
Slum Village emerged out of the east side of Detroit in the early 1990s. Comprised of high school friends J Dilla, Baatin, and T3, the trio mixed old school hip hop, soul, and funk with innovative production, and quickly won the hearts of the hip hop underground with J Dilla becoming recognized as one of the most unique talents of a generation. J Dilla went on to produce music for Common, Q-Tip, Erykah Badu, and De La Soul among other notable artists before he passed away in 2006 after a battle with a blood disorder. With their tribute performances, the surviving members of Slum Village continue to honor his musical legacy. Detroit MC Black Milk (Curtis Cross) opens the night with his provocative brand of hip hop.
