Description
Ray and Tom Williams, and their spouses Melinda Eden and Penny Hawkins operate Williams Hudson Bay Farm, located just west of Walla Walla on the stateline. Their farm is on land that the Hudson Bay Company originally cultivated starting in 1821 and now encompasses over 3,000 certified organic acres. They also are certified "Salmon Safe".The Williams organically grow wheat, alfalfa, hay, alfalfa seed, sweet corn, grain corn, popcorn, winter squash, and pumpkins. They also have a complete nutrient recycling program through their dairy replacement livestock feeding operation. They market directly to Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods and other regional organic suppliers, including two distilleries, one of which won an international award for the "World's Best Vodka" in 2014. The Williams Family invites you to visit their farm and discuss the practice of sustainable agriculture and organic farming. It's really very simple: all you need is good organic fertility, excellent soil biology and effective weed control (an impossible task, but they keep trying to do it).
