A
well-kept secret in Northeast Oregon is the Grand Ronde Overlook
Wildflower Institute Serving Ecological Restoration (GROWISER). This 260
acre private conservation area is split into two pieces: one north of
Summerville and the other east of Cove. The area holds many native
wildflowers, including many of the orchid species native to Oregon. This
event will tour the private conservation with its resident expert: Dr.
Andy Huber.
Dr. Huber is a former professor of Biology at Eastern
Oregon University, and is the founder and current organization leader of
GROWISER. His background in agronomy (seed science) serves him well as
he cultivates rare flower species on this tract of land for preservation
of the species and for others to see on private tours.
Mike
Denny, a well-known local naturalist, is a former president of the Blue
Mountain Audubon Society. His expertise and enthusiasm for the area is
renowned, and he’ll be an excellent guide on this trip of one of the
region’s gems. Bus transportation will be provided.
This event is supported by a generous grant from Burkhart & Burkhart, Attorneys at Law and Tallman's Drug.
