"The Gospel at Colonus is more than the sum of its excellent parts; it’s a full-body experience. Audience members...leap to their feet, clapping and dancing in the aisles." Cara Bouin The Broad Street Review
The Gospel at Colonus is an on-your-feet, clap-your-hands, make a joyful noise musical theatre experience. A modern reworking of the Oedipus myth, Colonus tells the story of the once powerful king, now cursed and blind at the end of his life, who wanders in exile, in search of sanctuary and the blessing of a peaceful end, a resting place. Sophocles’ ancient story of suffering and forgiveness fuses perfectly with the preaching cadences and ecstatic song of the African American church.
