Esther Duflo is M.I.T.’s Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics, and a co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab. She is a co-winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize for economics; among her numerous other laurels are a MacArthur Fellowship and the John Bates Clark Medal. With her fellow Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee, Duflo wrote “Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty” and “Good Economics for Hard Times.”
Siddhartha Mukherjee is a physician, oncologist, and author, known internationally for his books “The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer” and “The Gene: An Intimate History”; the former won the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction, and both have been adapted for the screen by the documentary filmmaker Ken Burns. Dr. Mukherjee, a professor of medicine at Columbia University and a staff physician at the medical center there, has conducted groundbreaking studies into the composition and behavior of cancer cells.
Anne-Marie Slaughter is the C.E.O. of the innovative think tank New America, and is the Bert G. Kerstetter ’66 University Professor Emerita of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University. From 2009 to 2011, she was the first woman to serve as the director of policy planning for the U.S. State Department. Previously, she served as dean of Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs. Her newest book is “Renewal: From Crisis to Transformation in Our Lives, Work, and Politics,” which will be released on September 21st.
