Bringing the California wine country to the City...
This event is dedicated to showcasing the wines of over 60 high-quality, limited-production, commercial winemakers who are making under 1500 cases per year from all over California. We are thrilled to be holding this year's Festival in the historic, art deco Wiltern Theater in mid-city Los Angeles.
Our mission is to support the small guys and girls who don’t have big marketing budgets or the time to get out there and sell their wine. These small-lot wines can be very hard to find. Over 60% of these winemakers don’t have a tasting room, so this is a singular chance to discover the next great winemakers early...and impress your friends with your newfound knowledge! Come on down and meet these artisans in person and taste their passion. We know you'll find plenty of new wines to love.
VIP BACKSTAGE SEMINAR - 1:00-2:00pm - "Understanding Oak Varieties: Tasting the Winemaker's Spice Rack"
The Garagiste Festival is pleased to announce the first LA iteration of this popular VIP seminar.
What does oak really taste like? French oak, American oak, neutral oak, heavy toast... these are some of the words we hear all the time in the wine world, but what do they really mean? How do you tell the flavor of oak from the flavor of the wine itself? We will taste it for ourselves as our VIP guests will get an All Access Pass to the world of oak in wine.
It almost impossible to learn the difference in oak flavors unless you can sample a single wine with different types of oak treatments side-by-side. Once you do this, you'll be able to identify oak flavors at whole new level and for the rest of your life. We've done it and it's powerful, fun, and enlightening way to raise your tasting chops.
The discussion will be led by Ryan Render, a representative for the famous French tonnellerie Cadus. Ryan, an accomplished Garagiste winemaker in his own right and owner of Rendarrio Vineyards, will guide attendees through a history of barrel making and it's nuances covering everything from forest origin to grain influence to toast levels as we taste and compare.
This is not something you can achieve at home - you need the Garagiste Festival to make it possible! >>MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE<<
RARE & RESERVE TASTING - 2:00-3:00pm
This hour is truly something special for our VIP and Early Access ticket holders. Given the already small case lots our wineries make, the bottles being opened during this hour will be like finding a unicorn. Wine club only, library wines, first vintages sold out long ago...and yes, a bit of future casting is on the agenda as well with some pre-releases you'll get to brag about months - and perhaps years - before your friends get to try them. This is the best of their best and we wanted to give you a truly memorable experience, more than just an extra hour to taste with fewer people on hand. Though that's certainly nice, too.
