EAST Animating Democracy is Scarborough Arts' free photography and film-making program for youth aged 14 to 21 years old facilitated by media artists Solana Cain, Chris Laxton, and Sampreeth Rao. For eight weeks, the youth worked closely with their mentors and learned about the technical and creative aspects of film-making and photography including storytelling, film production, camerawork, lighting, writing, directing, and editing, with a focus on social justice and civic engagement.
See the new photographic works and celebrate the achievements of these incredible emerging youth artists at the opening reception of EAST Animating Democracy Photography Exhibition on Tuesday, July 18! In addition to photographic works, view the short films written and directed by the EAST youth that recently premiered at the 5th Annual Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival.
EAST Animating Democracy is presented by Scarborough Arts in partnership with Trinity Square Video and Charles Street Video, with support from the City of Toronto, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Foundation, and The Johansen-Larsen Foundation.
