Empower Nepali Girls is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, which empowers and supports neglected, marginalized, and at-risk girls and young women in Nepal, especially those who are at greatest risk to be forced into early marriage, sold into sex slavery, or abandoned as orphans. Today, we serve almost 300 girls in over 40 villages, providing tuition fees, school materials, clothing, and mentoring from primary school up to university.
In 2013, In The Flicker produced the short film Sahasi Chori (Brave Girl). The story follows curious & determined 13-year-old Bhumika from her Himalayan village in Nepal to the big city for the first time. She travels with family friend, Krishna, who keeps a secret that may change her life forever. Sahasi Chori had it’s world premiere at SXSW 2013, and screened at over 40 festivals worldwide, amassing over 10 major awards and several four-star reviews along the way.
