Saint John's Church, Lunenburg
64 Townsend St, Lunenburg, NS B0J 2C0, Canada
Erika Kulnys releases Rise Up, her sixth full-length studio album at the Emera Centre (Liverpool) Friday Nov. 25th, at Saint John’s Anglican Church (Lunenburg) Saturday Nov. 26th, and Saturday December 3rd at the Music Room (6181 Lady Hammond Road, Halifax). These concerts should be on everyone’s list of things to do, as Erika has been winning and placing in songwriting competitions from Ireland to Ontario and will play with a seven-piece band (electric guitar, dobro, drums, cello, violin and back-up singers). Playing with her are Andrew Sneddon (David Myles), Jeff Torbert, Zach Smith, India Gailey, Anna Wedlock (Willie Stratton), and Jordan Stephens (Ben Caplan).
Rise up is a folk-pop record of love and social justice songs, with music ranging from beautiful ballads to danceable rock. The album, released at Copenhagen Pride this summer, features musicians Jim Henry (Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Paula Cole), Dave Mattacks (Paul McCartney, Fairport Convention), Richard Gates (Melissa Ferrick, Patty Larkin), Ian Kennedy, Catherine Bent, Kirsten Maxwell, Shay Williams, Katie Kay, and Kala Farnham. It was recorded in 2015-16 at Signature Sounds Studio in Connecticut with studio engineer, Mark Thayer (Catie Curtis, James Taylor). http://erikakulnys.com/music/rise-up/
The concert will include the premieres of new work by Erika as well as classics from her oeuvre.
