Description
The Pacific Northwest is blessed with an abundance of energy, and renewable energy has become a potent economic and political force in our local community, region and nation.
This event will start with some of the basics of renewable energy – what is it, and how does a wind turbine or solar panel actually produce energy? Our discussion will also broach current environmental issues such as avian mortality.
We’ll meet at the Walla Walla Community College’s Water Center where we’ll learn how renewable energy is produced and how our future energy providers are trained.Next, we’ll discuss how all this energy from hydroelectric dams, wind turbines and solar panels power our homes and business. The Bonneville Power Administration is leading the way in this effort. BPA has connected almost 5,100 MW of wind energy to the region’s transmission system - enough to power a city three times the size of Seattle! BPA anticipates connecting significantly more wind and solar to its system by 2025, setting northwest states well on their way to achieving long-term renewable energy targets.
Wrapping up, we’ll visit with the Community Renewable Energy Association, a leader in renewable energy policy agenda for our region.
