Afreeka is an Australian born music producer and DJ who blends traditional and modern, live and electronic, world music with the music of the African diaspora.
The Afreeka sound can be loosely described as "Afrobass", blending African Diaspora sounds with progressive electronic music. His live sets are a diverse odyssey through the African continent and all the places she has seeded her rhythms. Global electronica, AfroHouse, hip-hop, Tropical Bass, Dancehall, with a tasty dusting of live percussion. Afreeka is a high-energy throw-down guaranteed to make you move.

AFREEKA @ekadarvillesoundcloud.com/afreeka-1Eka Afreeka is an Australian born music producer and DJ based in Los Angeles. Raised amongst an eclectic family of artists, Eka is a self-confessed music addict on a mission to celebrate Africa and the sonic gifts of her people.
At age 5 Eka’s family moved to The Gambia west Africa for full immersion study in the music, dance and culture. It was the beginning of a love that still burns today. Embracing his heritage, Eka delved deep into the musical pedigree of The Gambia, Guinea, Mali and Zimbabwe.With the vision of fusing the rhythms of Africa with the provocative sounds emerging from the global dance music scene, Eka relocated to New York, studying at the big apples premier electronic music production school ‘DubSpot’.
This was the birth of the sonic tapestry that is ‘Afreeka’. A joining of his two lineages. Traditional and modern, live and electronic, Europe and Africa.
In 2011 Eka had the privilege of joining the international sensation Deya Dova, touring with them as percussionist and Ableton wizard, playing much of the international festival circuit from ‘Splendor In The Grass’ to ‘Burning Man’.

VANDANA HART is the creator and host of “We Speak Dance”, on Netflix worldwide, a documentary series using dance as an international language to connect people across cultures. While she was working for the UN and a judge on Kenya’s "So you Think You Can Dance" she found dance was the most powerful way to unite people, transform lives and act as a weapon for social change. She has traveled to over 80 countries leading dance workshops, choreographing music videos and consulting for the UN on women's rights and youth empowerment. *Her “Soulful House” warm up is a combination of jazz, hip hop, house, salsa, samba dance styles fused together in a fun follow the leader style movement experience facilitated by Vandana Hart
How it works:We open with a special warmup yoga or movement class facilitated by a skilled practitioner. The opening class blends seamlessly into the the two hour freeform dance journey facilitated by our guest DJ. At the end of the DJ set we close with a sound bath or group exercise to ground and complete the experience.What to expect:Live DJs | Free-Form Movement | Workshops | Yoga | Sound Baths | Massage | High Vibe Food | TribeEcstatic Dance is a community gathering for people who want to express themselves freely, to connect, and to expand together. Join us and enjoy a safe and inspiring space to dance without talking, drinking, and the nightclub vibe. This is about self-expression, freeing your mind and body, and connecting with yourself and those around you. No booze, no shoes and no chit-chat on the dance floor helps us keep it intentional. Amazing music helps us keep it all about Dance.
Guidelines:▸ No talking on the dance floor (there’s room to talk in the lounge space or quietly at the edge of the dance floor)▸ Move your body however you wish▸ Maintain care/awareness for the space and those around you ▸ This is a drug and alcohol free event▸ No photos or videos; cellphones muted and out of sight▸ Ecstatic Dance is a barefoot practice. If you need to wear shoes due to health reasons, please note dance-specific shoes are allowed, but only shoes that have not been worn on the street▸ Children under 16 dance free!▸ Complimentary earplugs ;)
