Alice Lynch - Senior Research Engineer at Zalando
Summary: Using Causal Inference to Understand your Customers ( Learnings from a sojourn with Research Economists) Causal inference is an area of study that allows us to better understand the true underlying cause and impact of events. In the context of using it as a data science tool for business, it allows a company to understand the impact of something like a new product, pricing strategy, or an ad campaign on the bottom line of the company. This then allows decision makers to direct company strategy with a deeper understanding not only of what is causing impact, but why it is impacting. After spending 6 months working with research economists who are experts on this topic, I will share some of what I have learned in this talk. I will put Causal Inference into context in relation to other data driven tools like descriptive and predictive analytics and AI systems, and share some conundrums and methods that can be put into practice.
