MATINEE DOUBLE BILL
AN ORDINARY MAN (Rating G)
Director: Samantha Babboni
In this award-winning short film. Daryl misses his bus, as he has many times before, but tonight he will meet an unusual couple and be faced with an important decision.
SWEET DILLARD (Rating G)
Director: Jim Virga
An inspirational teacher uses jazz music to change a generation. Sweet Dillard follows several individual students and their families of one of the most successful high school jazz bands in the US and learn of the often very serious pressures many of them face while still determinedly showing up at every rehearsal to take their seat in the band. At the end of the year, they travel to New York City for the national Essentially Ellington championships, determined to make South Florida proud.
Central to the film are the ways of Christopher Dorsey who teaches, inspires, chastises and otherwise encourages students to make something of their lives. To him, playing in jazz band isn't primarily about mastering music — it's about learning to become.
