This opportunity invites early years professionals who have a passion or want to learn more about outdoor play to come together and collaboratively reflect on the opportunities and challenges that are unique to engaging with children in outdoor spaces. Conversations emerging from this group are ongoing and always inspiring. The Butterfly Project
This all started about 15 years ago when a parent brought in a Monarch Butterfly in its chrysalis. The children and I were mesmerized when the adult butterfly emerged and I wanted to build on this experience. So, I researched as much as I could about raising these butterflies. Over the years, one butterfly soon led to planting milkweed, planting flowers, raising countless butterflies, and tagging them to track their migration to Mexico.
In July 2022, the Monarch butterfly was listed as an endangered species, so it’s even more important to inspire children to help this insect. How do we do that? By asking questions that pique their curiosity and empower them to come up with their own theories through observation.
Join me as I walk you through this journey and offer strategies to help you inspire children in their exploration of this important insect!

While we welcome participation from outside of the Early Years sector, please note these learning opportunities are intended for early years professionals and the early years lens will be emphasized.
