Our Christmas Case features the following wines:
Lemoss
Grapes: 100% Glera/ Vintage: NV/ Country: Italy/ Region: Veneto/ Alcohol: 11%
A bone dry, cloudy fizz made using the Col Fondo method, which is how sparkling wines were made in Veneto hundreds of years ago. The wine is lightly sparkling with lots of green apple and lemon freshness, and a rich bread-y finish. It’s is so light and easy-drinking that you might want to replace your buck’s fizz for a glass of this on Christmas morning.
Meinklang Weisser Mulatschak
Grapes: Gewusrztraminer / Pinot Gris/ Vintage: 2018/ Country: Austria/ Region: Burgenland/ Alcohol: 11.5%
An orange wine from one of our favourite Austrian producers! Meinklang is big on Biodynamics, that’s why all of their labels feature the cow, and this wine is one of their most hands-off with no added sulphur, no fining or filtering it is slightly cloudy and VERY orange in appearance. The nose is opulent with flavours of rose and lychee which follow through to the palate. This gorgeous aromatic wine would work really well with pates or parfaits.
Marie-Pierre Chevassu-Fassanet Chardonnay
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay/ Vintage: 2017/ Country: France/ Region: Jura/ Alcohol: 13%
The number of vigneronnes or women winegrowers in the Jura is small. Marie-Pierre produces wines that are typical to the Jura region, like this Chardonnay which is oxidative in style with sharp acidity, honeysuckle and almond notes.
Chateau Cambon Beaujolais
Grapes: 100% Gamay/ Vintage: 2018/ Country: France/ Region: Beaujolais/ Alcohol: 12.5%
This beaujolais is light and juicy as you’d expect but it also has a rich, creamy note to it. Made by Marie Lapierre, this is a minimal intervention beaujolais without any of the funk; it is packed with blueberry and sweet spice flavours and has soft, velvety tannins.
Pasarene Shiner
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Petit Verdot / Cabernet Franc/ Vintage: 2016/ Country: South Africa/ Region: Stellenbosch
This wine is big! One for the Malbec or Bordeaux lovers. The wine is juicy and rich with lots of blackcurrant and blackberry notes, it is earthy and spicy because of the 22 months that it spends in oak. It is a beast but it’s elegant too.
Clos Lapeyre Jurancon
Grapes: Petit Manseng / Gros Manseng/ Vintage: 2017/ Country: France/ Region: Jurancon
A light dessert wine from the South West of France made with minimal intervention in the winery. This is incredibly balanced with fresh acidity and flavours of ripe gooseberry and apricot.
