Sadly, due to the restructure, Mischief Brew can no longer attend the event. However, we have added My Pizza My World, as well as several other acts we know you'll like. The event will now take place from 10am-midnight Saturday, with music from 11-11. During the day there is river access, so bring your swimmies and towel (you know where it is, right?). NO LIFEGUARD WILL BE ON DUTY. In addition, we've made tickets for 13 and under free; and dogs on leash are also permitted (your call on whether your under-13 year old needs to be on leash). Owners are required to clean up and dispose of all dog waste. There will be food vendors on site with veggie/vegan options, but our permit does not allow outside drinks or glass bottles. There are economical camping and lodging options nearby, including a beautiful Edwardian mansion-turned HI hostel just a mile away: http://www.hiusa.org/california/sacramento/sacramento We look forward to having you. All tickets will be honored; day passes are now $30 presale and $35 at the door. Please email info@sfindie.com your name and email to process partial refunds or to receive a pair of drink tix or a drink + food voucher (your choice) for those that payed the $40 presale price. Almost all of the bands in the line up will play on Saturday. We will post info on campground and hostel options nearby soon as well as the full band line up and set times. Gates open at 10a. SEPT 9 UPDATE:A NOTE FROM THE ORGANIZERS:Hello everyone,This week, after 10 months of working with Camp Pollock and the City of Sacramento, we were informed that camping would not be permitted for our event. We were given no notice of a meeting, and despite hours of conversations going up to the State Parks Board Director, we are being told the decision is final and we have no route of appeal. We are not giving up.Despite this obviously significant setback, we are working tirelessly to make this event happen, and work for all involved. We are exploring alternate venues, some with camping, some without. We are contacting local Sacramento landowners and venues. We are even looking at venues in the bay area.We are producing this event out of our love for the community, and of the music, and providing a place for those two to have a great weekend. What we need right now is to hear from you. While camping is *not* allowed, we are still able to hold day events at Camp Pollock. Would you still come if BrokenStrings has no camping on site? There are other nearby campsites; as well as a beautiful, cheap nearby hostel. Would you come if it was a one day event only? Would you come if it's a one day event closer to the Bay Area?We are a small event, run by three committed producers- Dan Abbott, Jeff Ross and Meredith SK. But this event is for YOU, and we need you to make it happen. YOU can make the difference, just by writing us. And if we can go forward (we really want to go forward) we're going to need you to spread the word far and wide to make this work. To bring people together. To make the music happen. We can do this. You can do this. With all our heart.Meredith, Jeff, and Dan.brokenstringsmusicfest@gmail.com
UPDATED ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT:Announcing the Broken Strings Music FestivalSeptember 26, 2015Camp Pollock in Sacramento Primarily known for producing film festivals in the Bay Area, but also with a history of presenting music festivals in the past, SF IndieFest, a 501c3 non profit arts organization, will present a new an all day showcase emerging talent from the folk-punk world. Broken Strings will be held September 26 at Camp Pollock in Sacramento CA, an idyllic former Boy Scout campground on the banks of the American River. The festival will feature approximately two dozen acts from across the U.S., including Blackbird Raum, Kepi Ghoulie, Dirty Kid Discount, Thee Hobo Gobbelins, and more!Complete lineup and information will be available at www.sfindie.com. For more info, contact IndieFest at (415) 820-3907 or info@sfindie.com. Festival Introduces Folk Punk to Wider Audience Broken Strings is an exploration of folk punk, a loosely-defined underground genre combining the energy of punk rock with the personal, stripped-down appeal of folk music. Both kinds of music value immediacy and shared experience. Folk punk doesn’t need big amplifiers and fancy effects; it’s music to hear and see up close. The result is a wide range of music; mostly (but not always) acoustic, mixing traditional music like bluegrass and klezmer with the raw energy of punk. Singalongs become shout-alongs, with lyrics about both the political and the personal. The bands perfoming at the festival all combine elements of folk music with punk. Performers at Broken Strings range from solo acoustic performers to full ensembles, mixing in folk traditions from around the world into something new and exciting. The festival will give attendees an up-close look at a new frontier of independent music before it is discovered by mainstream audiences.Festival attendees can enjoy great live music, swim in the river and interact with some of the nation’s finest independent artists. General Information about Broken Strings The festival is all ages. No ticket required for those under 14. Advance tickets are $30, at the gate $35.
