Description
Brand New Heavies confirmed for one night only at The Bedford Corn Exchange – With support from DJ’s 'Brother' Louie Martin and Mark Russell.
Pioneers of the London Acid Jazz scene, The Brand New Heavies, are a
British music institution whose unique mix of jazz, funk and soul has
lit up the UK music scene for well over two decades.
Over the
years The Brand New Heavies have been responsible for some of the UK’s
biggest R & B/ soul tracks, scoring 16 top 40 singles including
‘Dream On Dreamer’ and ‘You’ve Got A Friend’, as well as over two
million album sales.
It was old school friends Jan, Andrew and
Simon pursuing their near-obsessive love of soul music and '70s funk
that inspired them to form The Brand New Heavies.
Early hits
‘Never Stop and ‘Dream Come True’ were original chunks of organic funk
that earned the band a reputation as a formidable live act and their
reinterpretations of popular standards, such as ‘Midnight At The Oasis’,
Carole King's ‘You've Got A Friend ‘and the Stevie Wonder classic ‘I
Don't Know Why (I Love You)’, brought major global chart success.
Having
made their mark originally with the immensely talented vocalist N’Dea
Davenport, the core trio of Jan Kincaid, Simon Bartholomew and Andrew
Levy were later fronted by Siedah Garrett and Carleen Anderson.
The
Brand New Heavies have been ploughing their own furrow the British
music scene for over a quarter of a century and are respected the world
over. See them live at Bedford Corn Exchange in May!
