Join us in The Ecology Center garden for a hands-on exploration into building healthy soil! You will learn how to make compost tea, work with soil building plants, and more. All participants will take home inspiring informational handouts and different compost samples to use in your garden!
Healthy soil is a living, breathing community of organisms interacting to provide a wide variety of benefits to their ecosystems.
In your garden, healthy soils:
Retain moisture and save water
Keep plant diseases and pests at bay
Suppress weeds and soil-borne diseases
Loosen clay and compacted soils
Prevent erosion
Eliminate harmful chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides
One of the easiest methods for building and maintaining healthy soil is by using compost and compost teas that you can make at home.
Join us in The Ecology Center garden for a hands-on exploration into building healthy soil. Together we will:
Discuss the basics of healthy organic garden soils
Learn how to build soils using nitrogen fixers, bioaccumulators, and other soil building plants
Demonstrate multiple composting methods for the home
Learn how to use compost and compost teas in your garden
All attendees will receive informational hand-outs to complement the subjects covered in the workshop, and take home a few samples of different composts from The Ecology Center.
