Description
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Art of the Sacred is a journey into the symbolic, metaphysical practice of creative cosmic geometry.
12 Fold Geometric Painting with Gold & Mineral Pigments by David Heskin, 2020
Unity is fundamental to the experience of sacred geometry, as all complexity points to the mythical origin at the center of all of nature. Geometric constructions serve as symbolic, alchemical anchors in the psyche, as we invoke an infinite variety of cymatic possibilities through drawings, paintings and larger collaborative projects.
Concrescence, in Watercolor & Woad Pigment by David Heskin, 2019
With step-by-step progressions through ever-increasing detail, we gain a greater appreciation for the systems of construction used by ancient geometers, while aiming toward accuracy and insightful awareness through the practice of drawing.
4 Stage Progression Drawing on Black Paper by David Heskin, 2018
By becoming familiar with methods of geometric analysis, students learn how to reverse engineer the geometric underpinnings of architecture, gaining a greater appreciation for the proportion and design found in worldwide cultural traditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Students will gain a working understanding of a variety of geometric principles and a practical means to contemplate their cosmic symbolism.
Each day of the intensive consists of multiple sessions that explore a unique facet of sacred geometry as found in nature, architecture and art. Drawing sessions utilize the ancient geometer’s toolset of a compass and straightedge to analyze and unfold beautiful patterns, including examples from the Alhambra palace and other historic architectural sources of Islamic Geometry.
12 Fold Geometric Painting with Precious Metals & Mineral Pigments in Egg Tempera, by David Heskin, 2020
Evening sessions provide an open studio atmosphere where attendees are invited to integrate the geometric lessons into their own creative work in the medium of their choice. A selection of watercolors will be available to transform the daily drawings into brilliant colorful paintings.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
David Heskin
A lifelong multi-faceted artist defying categorization, David Heskin has produced extensive bodies of work in a variety of styles and mediums integrating many living traditions in his original artwork. Combining tradition and innovation, his driving aspiration is to create artifacts and visual experiences that are otherwise unavailable to the human eye, and that speak to the journey of the soul.
His first 15 years as an artist were largely self-guided, after which time he sought out artistic techniques on the brink of being lost. After a decade of studies in a variety of artistic lineages, his original artwork and teaching have become expressions of this creative fusion.
David earned his Master’s Degree in Traditional Arts from The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, a program that emphasizes the universal principles of geometry as a path to cultural and spiritual wisdom. For more than a decade, David has developed and taught numerous international, technique-driven, painting, drawing and geometry courses. His work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, cultural centers and theaters, and is held in private collections throughout North America, Europe and beyond.
