Description
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Art has the ability to speak meaning beyond words—expressing unspoken pain, unseen wounds, the possibility of hope, and audacious dreams. In this workshop, engage in art practices, and processes of reflection that illustrate how the intersection of art and healing leads to transformation. The Art + Healing workshop is designed for those in search of healing for themselves and for those they serve through the practice and reflection of art.
Join us for a full day of creative exploration as we practice art as a method of inner healing—not only for ourselves, but for the world we live in.
Freely in Hope’s Nikole Lim, international director, and Maryclare Beche, program designer & storyteller, co-teach Art + Healing—sharing on how the intersection of arts and healing has led to transformation in the lives of survivors of sexual violence in Kenya. Nikole and Maryclare will be sharing stories of impact that Freely in Hope has made—giving platforms for survivors of sexual violence to learn in safe spaces, develop their leadership potential, and share their stories with freedom, hope, and dignity.
Freely in Hope's Art + Healing Workshop has allowed survivors to utilize art as a restorative process of healing with cross-cultural missionaries in Spain, children orphaned by abuse in Nepal, and survivors of sexual violence in Kenya.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS
From California, Nikole Lim is a speaker, educator, and consultant on leveraging dignity through the restorative art of storytelling. Nikole shifts paradigms on how stories are told by platforming voices of the oppressed—sharing stories of beauty arising out of seemingly broken situations. Her heart beats for young women whose voices are silenced by oppression and desires to see every person realize the transformative power of their own story. As our Cofounder and International Director, Nikole has been deeply transformed by the powerful, tenacious, and awe-inspiring examples of survivors. Their audacious dreams have informed her philosophy for a survivor-led approach to community transformation. Nikole has a degree in Film Production from Loyola Marymount University and is pursuing a masters in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. She can often be found buying African fabric on the streets of Nairobi.
From Kenya, Maryclare desires to see survivors rise up in freedom—allowing their voices of hope and dignity to be heard. As our Program Designer and Storyteller, Maryclare creates programs that give platforms for survivors of sexual violence to share their stories with dignity. As a survivor, dynamic speaker, and confident leader, her passion is to see a world where the stories of sexual violence will be but history. As one of Freely in Hope’s first scholars, she is a pioneer of transformative storytelling—leveraging power in the stories of survivors. She believes that the more survivors share their transformative stories from trauma to hope, the more they are able to experience a deeper healing that will heal the world. Maryclare has a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Daystar University in Nairobi. She likes trying new food, laughing and dancing with her nieces, and riding motorbikes deep into slums to rescue women in prostitution.
