DESCRIPTION
The Afrikadey! Arts & Culture Society shares the rich creative works of African cultures - from the continent and throughout the Diaspora - with Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life. In this year's film festival, prepare to live an epic journey into the world of African cinema at it's best! We have 4 amazing films that will captivate, enchante and trhill you.
First we have The Wedding Party, an outrageous romantic comedy by Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu - one of the wildest romcoms you'll ever see!
Then Nigerian producer Obafemi Bandele Lasode brings to life the story of Sango - The Legendary African King. This engaging film chronicles the exploits of legendary Yoruba king Sango, ruler of the Oyo Empire. This film brings 15th-century Africa - way before the arrival of colonizers - to rich, colorful life.
Our third presentation, Tanna, is based on a true story. Set in one of the world's last true tribal societies, this spectacularly lush and exotic film by Australian filmmakers Bentley Dean and Martin Butler will have you laughing, crying and cheering as you live this gripping, volcanic South Pacific love story.
Our last presentation, White Shadow, is a shocking and inspiring film by German director Noaz Deshe. Timeless, haunting, horrific and beautiful, the film tells a fictional story based on the real situation facing Tanzania’s albino population today. Alias, a young albino teenager, is under constant threat... Come follow Alias as gangs specializing in kidnapping and killing albinos to sell their body parts are chasing him.
