This showcase will include tours of the facility’s premier solar energy research labs and test sites. We aim to educate the public about the initiatives that are being undergone in the field of solar energy and the importance of continued growth in the research supporting this industry. ELSE uOttawa and SUNLAB representatives will be on site to answer technical questions and talk about the role solar energy plays, and will continue to play, in Canada’s energy supply mix. Our open house is free to the public and will include light snacks and refreshments. We encourage everyone of all ages and backgrounds to join us!
About ELSE uOttawa: ELSE uOttawa, in cooperation with Emerging Leaders for Solar Energy (ELSE) Canada and the Canadian Solar Industry Association (CanSIA), is a growing network of students, young professionals, and solar advocates, who are working together to help promote the responsible and sustainable growth of solar energy markets across Canada. Our mission is to facilitate honest, though-provoking public discussion about solar energy, its benefits, and its place in Canada’s energy supply mix.
About the SUNLAB: The SUNLAB, housed at the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Research in Photonics, is Canada’s premier solar cell characterization research facility, which focuses on high performance devices. In addition to the expertise in the area of experimental characterization, the research group complements these activities with a dynamic numerical modelling program. The SUNLAB was founded in August of 2007, followed closely by Dr. Karin Hinzer receiving a Canada Research Chair position in September of 2007. Dr. Karin Hinzer is a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Photonic Nanostructures and Integrated Devices and Associate Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Ottawa.
