Workshop synopsis - The Music Industry has long been heralded for its party-loving lifestyle, making it a dangerous place for those who struggle with alcohol and drugs. In December 2022, the Office for National Statistics reported a record number of alcohol-related deaths in the UK. Addiction can happen to anyone but recovery IS possible. Music Support, the charity that helps those who work in music and live events affected by mental ill-health and/or addiction invites you to a discussion surrounding addiction and supporting recovery within the music industry.
Music Support’s Learning & Development Specialist, Hannah Brinley, meets Music Consultant, Ronnie Traynor and multi-award-winning musician and co-founder of indie rock band, Klaxons, Jamie Reynolds, for an open and honest discussion about their personal experiences with addiction and how it has impacted their journeys both professionally and personally. They will also discuss to what extent there is an issue with addiction in the music industry, how we can challenge stigmas and what we can do to support recovery including the provision of Music Support’s Addiction and Recovery Awareness workshop, an inspirational four-hour session which is FREE to our industry peers.
About Jamie: Jamie Reynolds is best known as the founder and co-singer, song writer of platinum selling, multi award winning recording artists Klaxons. Jamie is a multi-instrumentalist, currently signed to Virgin Records as a songwriter and executive producer. In 2019, after a 28 year relationship with drugs and alcohol, Jamie came to admit that he needed help and entered recovery, where he currently helps other men on their own journey to sobriety.
About Ronnie: Ronnie has over 20 years’ experience working in the music industry, from a brief career as a DJ in the early 90’s to working at legendary dance label Distinct’ive Records. She went on to work with Groove Armada on a number of high-profile projects before joining Various Artists in 2010, to grow their brand partnerships division and manage a wide range of artists. Ronnie now divides her time between freelance music projects and studying to become a therapist. She has been sober for almost five years and in 2022 created the “Sober Social” in Margate - a brand new meeting to help people get used to socialising without alcohol.
About Hannah: Hannah is a highly skilled learning and development professional with extensive experience of delivering group focused learning. She specialises in mental health, addiction, CBT and mindfulness. Prior to joining Music Support, Hannah spent five years working for Forward Trust, a leading UK addiction charity, delivering group training for staff in a variety of drug and alcohol services, including high security prisons, resettlement prisons, residential rehabs, and community drop-in services across the UK.
About Music Support:
