Description
Springfield-Eugene SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) presents a skills-based workshop to gain skills for honest and more effective conversations about race with white friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors who don't believe racism against people of color is a problem. This workshop is designed to give us skills to communicate the reality of racism and help people see how they stand to gain when we address injustice.
Questions that will be addressed in the workshop:
* How can a white anti-racist ally speak to racism skeptics in a way that is effective and not off-putting?
* What do research findings tell us about the effectiveness of various strategies for helping racism skeptics broaden their view of issues like structural racism, unfair treatment by institutions and white advantage?
Workshop presenter, Dr. David Campt, is a dynamic and engaging speaker, facilitator, and trainer who teaches strategies for changing attitudes, behavior and group culture through dialogue. He is the author of a number of books on dialogue and pubic participation in social change processes. More information about his work can be found at: www.whiteallytoolkit.com.
