Blockchain Lunch: Capital Markets & Evaluating Startup Teams when Investing
The Entrepreneurship Society is hosting a special lunch for corporate and entrepreneurial thought leaders in partnership with CEO Global, Miller Thomson and Lendroid. There will be two panels and a buffet style lunch served in between. Panel 1 will explore technology updates/limitations and business implications. Panel 2 will dive into the Capital Markets of Blockchain and discuss how investors can evaluate blockchain startup teams. Each table will have one individual from the blockchain community seated at it so you can find out what's really happening behind the scenes in the Toronto blockchain community.

Jamie Rosenblatt (Moderator) is a Principal at Golden Venture Partners, a seed-stage venture fund investing across North America. A long time blockchain investor, Jamie works closely with entrepreneurs, accelerators, incubators, and the start-up community, to help find, fund and build amazing companies.
Trevor Koverko is a prominent blockchain founder, investor and speaker. After launching his career at the convergence of Wall Street and Silicon Valley, Trevor became a very early leader in the blockchain community - financing foundational projects like Ethereum, EOS and Shapeshift. In 2017, after predicting the mega-trend of financial securities migrating to the blockchain, Trevor cofounded Polymath - the worlds largest security token platform. Prior to Polymath, Trevor’s Oculus Rift-based project became one of the world's first VR exits. Trevor has raised 60MM+ for PolyMath.
Jenna Pilgrim is the
Director of Business Development at the $multi-million
Blockchain Research
Institute
, which is conducting the definitive investigation of blockchain
strategies, opportunities, and implementation challenges and is funded by
companies and governments worldwide.
Arunan Sri is the Founder of a stealth blockchain platform company, and
an Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) at
TribalScale, who recently
launched a $100MM ventures studios program to co-create blockchain startups.

Prashant Matta (Moderator) is a Senior Associate at OMERS Ventures where he is
responsible for sourcing and executing on investment opportunities in
technology companies. Prashant focuses on the blockchain sector and he
was involved in OMERS Ventures’
investments in Citizen Hex and the Digital Currency Group.
Len Sauer is the Director of Canaccord Genuity's equity capital markets group. He is responsible for the advisory and execution of the firm's Canadian capital raising activities for mid-cap growth clients including a number of recent large blockchain transactions. Len has worked in equity capital markets for the past nine years and been with Canaccord Genuity for 10 years. Prior to, Len was a management consultant at Brendan Wood International, a financial-services consulting firm.
Philip
Long
is a partner at the law firm Miller Thomson LLP, practicing
corporate and securities law and mergers and acquisitions. In addition
to being a member
of the firm’s Business Law Group and Capital Markets Group, Phil is a
co-leader of the firm’s multidisciplinary Blockchain taskforce looking
at legal matters related to blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies and
smart contracts. Phil has developed an expertise
researching and advising clients on blockchain and cryptocurrency
matters, including acting for issuers in initial coin offerings,
assisting blockchain developers on early stage financing and corporate
matters and advising clients on reverse take-over transactions
(RTOs) and initial public offerings (IPOs).
Jennifer Tremblay of Coinsquare is the Managing Director & Head of Capital Markets. Coinsquare is Canada's dominant digital currency exchange which raised 30MM in February, are targeting a 150MM IPO and looking to hire a team of 200 employees before the end of Q2 2018.
Prior to joining Coinsquare, Jennifer was a VP at TD Securities on the Algorithmic Trading team, leading sales and business development across the hedge fund, asset management and institutional sell-side community, in both Canada and the US. She was previously Head of Broker Sales for ITG Canada's dark pool TriAct MATCHNow, a competitor to the TSX. In Spring 2017 Jennifer was the only Canadian recognized at New York-based Trader's Magazine and Markets Media, Markets Choice Awards, where she won the Rising Star Award. Jennifer was also the only Canadian nominated in 2017 for Trader's Magazine Women in Finance Award. In early 2017, Jennifer started an initiative of her own, FinForum, which aims to bridge the gap between Toronto fintech firms and traditional financial institutions.
Vignesh
Sundaresan
is the Founder of
Lendroid. He is a blockchain entrepreneur, open
protocol architect, and YCombinator alumnus. After receiving his Bachelor's
degree from BITS Pilani, Dubai and Master of Entrepreneurship from
Carleton University, Ottawa, he co-founded Bitaccess (in 2013), which creates
accessible avenues - including physical kiosks - to buy and sell bitcoin. A
passionate coder, Vignesh is proud of his roots and excited about the
transformative potential of blockchain technology.
