Gather at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors for a uniquely creative workshop on the power of permaculture design in gardening. Join with like minded people to explore permaculture’s principles and protocols for saving time, energy and money while growing more of your own food and medicine where you live. Together we will explore techniques and strategies for applying permaculture to the way you design, implement and maintain your gardens on any scale. Topics include food forestry, planting care, feeding, composting and pest management. Learn best practices, top tips, and do’s and don’ts for taking your gardening practice to the next level.

Together we will learn hands-on how to make naturally fermented Sauerkraut, and we will explore the possibilities of Kraut with a tasting segment where we can sample a variety of delicious recipes. At the end of the day, we will each take home a started jar of Kraut that we created during the workshop, and directions for continuing Kraut experimentation at home.

We will learn to make a Bio-Dynamic Tea together which can be used to feed your favorite plants, and will do a group planting of Bio-Dynamic plants on the CoSM Grounds.
During this action packed day, we will walk the wisdom trail at CoSM, look at property maps and see past design ideas for the land. An interactive Design Charrette will give participants an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing process of permaculture design at CoSM.
This advanced introduction is suited to people of all experience levels with gardening or permaculture.

Delvin Solkinson
Delvin grew up in the Elphinstone Rainforest of British Columbia before bringing nature education into the local elementary school system and setting up a series of community permaculture gardens. He designed the Heart Gardens, a demonstration site specializing in plants with a history of use by the Coastal First Peoples. His permaculture education spans a Diploma and Masters Degree with Bill Mollison, the originator of permaculture. For 16 years has travelled across the planet to visit the best permaculture sites and learn with elder teachers of the movement including 25 advanced courses and teacher trainings. He is an accredited teacher through the Permaculture Research Institute (Australia), Permaculture Association (UK) and Permaculture Institute (USA). Creating curriculum, making media and crafting free, open source learning and teaching tools has been focus of his current Doctoral Degree in Permaculture Education. His newest project is the Permaculture Design Deck, a free download here www.visionarypermaculture.com/designdeck. He currently volunteers full time at CoSM on the Board of Directors and as Senior Managing Editor of CoSM Journal of Visionary Culture. He also volunteers his time to run the Visionary Permaculture Design program as a fundraiser for CoSM Chapel of Sacred Mirrors.
Grace
Grace was raised on a small family farm nestled on the edge of the woods in the wilds of Washington state, where she developed a keen love of nature and an appreciation for its many uses in everyday life. With her background in family farming, herbalism, and designing plant medicine-forward foods, she has delved into the world of permaculture by learning and teaching both in the states and abroad. Using her unique perspective, she highlights simple ways to use plant medicine to enrich your daily diet and health routines.

Visionary Workshop Testimonials
I took Delvin and Grace’s permaculture course. I had never heard of permaculture or CoSM before. My friend Andrew introduced me and I thought it was an interesting and great reason to escape the city on a summer Sunday. I was blown away. Maybe it was because I had no expectations going into it, or maybe it is because permaculture stimulates the mind and the heart. It activates a deep sense of gratitude for all life and the gift of being alive to experience it all. CoSM is stunning, the art is super cool (yes, I wrote super cool because that describes it best-in my opinion), the people are kind and gracious, and the fellow students want to apply what they are learning to their lives. Delvin and Grace are sincere, passionate about what they do and their excitement for what is possible is intoxicating. Delvin’s knowledge fascinates. And Grace, well she made us an alternative to Neosporin using comfrey and plantain from the grounds of CoSM. I have been using it daily on a blister watching it fade. Thank you Grace!
I highly recommend anyone to experience this for themselves.
Sincerely,
– Gabrielle
I loved your way of sharing the wealth of information. You made the basic introduction into permaculture easily available for instant practical applications. You have great pedagogic skills! The dynamic movement around different areas of Cosm while covering the topics was really welcome. Making and receiving the medicine from the land with Grace was an unexpected wonderful surprise! She was clear with the instructions and made it look so effortless!
