Description
A workshop taught by Matt Chapman and produced by foolsFURY Theater Company. The milieu of the Clown is failure, but the mode of the Clown is delight. The Clown is funny.Join us for a weekend of transformative immersion into the world and play of the Clown: the eccentric character, the most real thing on the stage. In three short intensive sessions, we will investigate what it means to be truly present on stage and to fully submit to what is, by courageously jumping into the abyss headfirst! We will explore comic rhythms, responsiveness, availability, the space of the stage, physicality, partnering skills, the mask of the Clown, and much more, driving towards a personal awareness in each student of the nature of their own sense of comic play and weirdness. This course is specifically designed for actors who wish to greater develop their vulnerability and sensitivity to the truth of the moment onstage. Clown training is an indispensable tool for actors to come to know themselves and the space of the stage more intimately. The Clown requires a commitment, ferocity, and honesty which can propel actors into profoundly new places in their work. No previous clown experience necessary. Suitable for professional actors, improvisors, movers, teachers, public speakers and anyone curious to discover their Clown. Bring a water bottle and snack, come dressed to move and ready to laugh.Location info: Studio 210 (Deborah Slater Dance) 3435 Cesar Chavez Street, SF 94110This is a big building on the corner on Cesar Chavez and Valencia, with a chicken wire fence around it.
