The Mosaic Centre is Alberta’s first net-zero commercial building, and aims to be a model of sustainable construction to inspire others to build A Better Way.
The vision behind the Mosaic Centre was to prove that a sustainable building could be both beautiful and affordable.
How does the building work? As a net zero building, the Mosaic Centre is designed to generate as much energy on-site as it consumes annually. The project team created a high performance building envelope and minimal mechanical/electrical systems, which work together to form an integrated response to the building’s physical environment. Photovoltaic panels cover the majority of the roof and part of the building’s south-facing facade to provide electricity, while a geo-thermal system provides heat and cooling. All tenants of the building are required to choose sustainable materials when completing leasehold improvements, take measures to reduce their energy and water requirements, and conduct their business in an environmentally conscious way.
To get to the Mosaic Centre, please drive south on 91st street, south of Ellerslie Road and south through the four-way stop. The Mosaic Centre is about 20 seconds down the road on the corner of 91st Street and Savaryn Drive. It is a three-story wooden building with the numbers 2003 on the entrance.
