STUDENT: CHRISTIAN RUIZ
CHRISTIAN RUIZ MENDOZA is a young guitarist from Van Nuys currently studying at LAVC under the jazz pianist, Professor Richard Kahn. He began playing guitar at age 13 and was introduced to jazz at age 16 by his best friend, a drummer in the school's jazz band.
Christian auditioned for the L.A. Jazz Society's Bill Green Mentorship Program in January of 2020, impressed the committee, and was accepted. He was paired with a mentor / Jazz Guitarist STEVE COTTER - and although the program was cut short due to Covid-19, Christian and Steve have a great relationship.
MENTOR: STEVE COTTER
STEVE COTTER is an active guitarist, jazz soloist, accompanist, and educator based in Los Angeles, since 1997. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music/Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. He currently teaches at Citrus College and Pasadena City College.
STEVE has recorded and toured internationally and extensively with Steve Tyrell, Bobby Caldwell, and Joey Defrancesco. Other artists he has performed with include Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Cobb, Larry Goldings, Lew Soloff, Bennie Maupin, John Pisano, Bill Perkins, Dale Fielder, Bob Maize, Ernie Watts, Ramon Banda, Brian Swartz, and Charles Owens. He performs frequently around the Los Angeles area.He will be alternating solo pieces with Christian Ruiz, who received 10 weeks of mentoring through the Bill Green Mentorship Program.
Steve and Christian will each be performing - followed by a short Q&A.

THIS EVENT IS FREE to watch. There is no cost to view this live performance but registration is required to obtain your ZOOM log-in information. Once you register, you will be sent information as to how to access this fabulous program. ZOOM log-ins will be sent approximately one hour before the performance. PLEASE try to make your reservation by 2pm Thursday Sept. 10th.
