Join us for the Opening Gala Screening and Q&A of Ava Duvernay's 13TH at the I Will Tell International Film Festival.
Titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime), the film explores the intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States. Fiercely intelligent, powerful and persuasive the film begins with a devastating quote from Barack Obama and follows up with impassioned and articulate contributions from a suite of intellectuals, politicians, activists and former inmates.
The much acclaimed documentary has been championed by many across the world who protest against systems of control where a disproportionate number of a subjugated group are cruelly mistreated - whether it’s a Dalit in India, an African American, or a young black man in London as may have been the case recently with Rashan Charles.
The first in the line-up of astonishing Dramas, Documentaries and Short Films followed by inspirational Director Q&As. To see other films in the festival at the Vue, Islington visit http://www.iwilltell.com/Events/events-calendar.ht...
