The 2019 National Student Food Summit (NSFS) is an invitation to find belonging with a group of passionate students across the country and to take part in activating a movement that will benefit people and the planet.
Held annually, NSFS is the only student food conference in the country. NSFS 2019 will focus on skill building and networking opportunities, anti-oppression training and engagement with Meal Exchange, highlighting the many ways students can become involved with a community of student leaders that are creating social change through food. Students can expect to leave with tangible skills and actionable next steps for organizing in the year ahead.
Details:
When/Where
NSFS 2019 features 3 days of programming, as well as 3 evening events. Sessions will begin at 5pm onThursday, August 15th and continue until 4pm on Sunday, August 18th. The conference will take place on the McMaster University campus in Hamilton Ontario. Check out our full schedule here.

Have an interest in and/or passion for food!
Be a post-secondary student in Canada
Be interested in tackling issues of social injustice, poverty and climate change
Have an intent to get involved with Meal Exchange's community of students who are making a difference through on-campus chapters, programs, campaigns and more, in the upcoming school year
If this doesn’t sound like you-reach out to jaimie@mealexchange.com with any questions-we’re sure there’s a space for you at NSFS!
Regional Pricing:
Recognizing the differences in travel costs for students from different regions across the country, this year’s NSFS is aiming to make the registration fee more accessible for students who are paying more to travel to the event. In this way, students are helping each other by sharing the costs to collectively have an unforgettable experience at NSFS 2019. Meal Exchange trusts that students will honour this initiative and select the appropriate regional ticket at the time of registration. Reach out to jaimie@mealexchange.com with any questions you might have.
Accommodations:
Where can I stay when attending NSFS 2019?
Meal Exchange has reserved single and double rooms (two beds, room is shared with 1 other person) in Hedden Hall residence at McMaster University for students attending NSFS 2019. Please select the single or double room ticket (separate from your event ticket) at the time of registration if you would like to stay here. Single room accommodation is $66/night and double rooms are $50/person/night, plus HST. Tickets are sold for 3 nights accommodation-check in is August 15th (there will be space to store your bags during programming, before check-in, on August 15th) and check out August 18th.
Each room includes WiFi, a bed, desk, chair and a dresser. Hedden Hall is a 5 floor building, has single use washrooms on each floor and is serviced by two elevators.
What if I need to stay for more or less than 3 nights?
You can still stay on campus, but you will need to arrange your own accommodation through this booking system. Any of the residences would be convenient for the event, however if you’d like to be in the same building as the group (it’s also the most affordable) select the Hedden Hall residence option.
How do the double rooms work?
Meal Exchange will assign roommates to each student that purchases a double room ticket and will contact you beforehand. If you would like to find your own roommate, feel free to connect with other students on the Facebook event page. After registering, if there is a particular person you would like to room with, please make a request to summit@mealexchange.com. Please note: both students need to pay for a double room ticket.
