Criminal Justice - Speaker Profile
The Plenary Speaker for Criminal Justice will be the Director of the Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice, Claire Lightowler.
"As Director of the Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice (CYCJ), I lead CYCJ in its work to improve children’s lives through improving policy, practice and knowledge about the issues related to offending by children and young people .
I have a particular interest in co-production and what this means/can look like in a criminal and youth justice context. I am passionate about ensuring that practitioners and young people supported by the youth justice system have opportunities to share what they know and influence strategic and policy decisions. I have undertaken research about co-production and women’s community justice; user engagement and community justice; practitioner research and knowledge exchange.
I am a member of the Youth Justice Improvement Board, the Children’s Hearing Improvement Partnership and the Social Services Strategic Forum.
I’m on the board of the Life Changes Trust, established to invest £50 million to improve the lives of care experienced young people and people with dementia and their carers. I also enjoy yoga, walking/running behind my pet whippets and having an occasional G&T (though not all at the same time)."
