Description
The password is: “Fidelio...” Nothing says the holidays like infidelity, murder and spooky sex clubs, as brought to us by the cinematic master Stanley Kubrick. Adapted from Arthur Schnitzler’s 1926 novella Dream Story, EYES WIDE SHUT—Kubrick’s final film—mystified audiences upon its posthumous release. Twenty years later, it’s a certified masterwork, considered one of the director’s most complicated and intricate films.
Affluent New York doctor Bill Halford (Tom Cruise) embarks on a journey of sexual intrigue after his wife Alice (Nicole Kidman) reveals that she had contemplated an affair. Infiltrating a cult-like orgy held within a remote country mansion, where all participants disguise themselves behind elaborate Venetian masks, Halford finds himself enmeshed in a web of danger with implications of murder. Unable to extricate himself from the ensuing, yet sexy calamity, he is forced to confront the sex cult’s reckoning.
Submitted to the studios just six days prior to Kubrick’s untimely death, EYES WIDE SHUT was one of the most talked about productions of the 1990s—having been filmed over a record-breaking 400 continuous days. Bold, eerie, and hypnotic, EYES WIDE SHUT, with Cruise and Kidman on display in their most candid and explicit roles as a married couple, continues to elicit controversy and rapture. Costumes encouraged!
