What is Athena? Athena is a new women's running group in St Albans! In partnership with St Albans Half Marathon the Athena Project has been designed to provide a community where ladies can feel comfortable to meet up and motivate one another to take small steps together towards their running goals!Athena groups cater for women of all ages and abilities. Whether you area complete beginner who needs help getting started or a regular runner who is struggling to increase their distance, we have a group for you! What are the Groups? Stage 1 - BeginnersA beginners group where you will learn to run from 0 -5KStage 2 - Intermediates Now you have got the running bug this group will help you improve your distance from 5K to 10KStage 3 - ImproversFor ladies who can run 7-8K reasonably comfortably and are looking to progress to half marathon distance. Please note you will need to complete stages 3 and 4 to reach the half marathon distance. Stage 3 Intense (Spring Groups Only)For ladies who can run 7-8K reasonably comfortably and are looking to progress to half marathon distance in time for St Albans Half Marathon on Sunday 12th June.Stage 4 - Advanced The final stage of the half marathon training programme for people running around 9 miles.Social Groups (NEW)Social groups are for past Athena members and new Athena ladies registered for any stage group. Great for buddying up for homework runs or if you want to continue running with Athena but are not looking to progress your distance. There will be one coach there to greet you all, lead a warm up and send you out on different routes depending on your ability. No official coaching programme will be provided but coaches can advise on runs for that session. Occasionally strength sessions will be hosted depending on weather and numbers.How does it work?Stage GroupsThese are an 8 week programme and involve 2 homework runs per week as part of the training programme.If you follow the 8 week programme within each stage, you will be ready to move on to the next stage in our next block of sessions which will be Summer 2016 commencing in July.NB: Homework runs will be monitored to ensure the group is progressing together. You will be emailed your homework runs after each session.Social GroupsIf you purchase a social group membership you can attend any or all of the three social groups each week. A social group membership is included with every stage group booking.NB: For the Spring Session the Social Groups, Stage 3 Intense & Stage 4 will be 10 week programmes to provide you with training and guidance all the way to the St Albans Half Marathon on Sunday 12th June.How do I book? Simply book your space on your selected group. You will then receive a confirmation email. Bring this along to your first running group and just run with us! How much does it cost? Athena is a non-profit project; we have a small charge for our groups to support the funding in covering the projects running costs. Stage 1 - £35Stage 2 - £40Stage 3 Intense - £50 (10 week programme)Stage 4 - £50 (10 week programme)Social Group Membership - £20 for 10 weeks.NB: All stage groups include social group membership! Athena Cancellation Policy? Athena payments are required in full upon booking onto a group.All payments are non-refundable.If you miss 3 sessions or more due to unforeseen reasons you will be offered a 20% discount on the next season of sessions.
